Tina Kaarsberg
Dr. Tina Marie Kaarsberg is a long-serving federal energy research and policy leader with more than two decades of experience across the U.S. Department of Energy. She currently serves as a Technology Manager in DOE’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Office (AMMTO) where she originated and has led the national initiative that is the topic of this event: the Energy Efficiency Scaling for Two Decades (EES2) initiative, a national effort uniting more than 1000 organizations to pursue a 1000× improvement in microelectronics energy efficiency.
Her portfolio also includes advancing atomically precise manufacturing, nanotechnology, and materials manufacturing research. Previously, Dr. Kaarsberg managed the Small Business Innovation Research Program and served as National Laboratory Planning Advisor in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Office of Strategic Programs. Her earlier DOE roles span industrial technologies, distributed and renewable power, bioenergy, geothermal, buildings technologies, and DOE-wide policy.
Before joining DOE, Dr. Kaarsberg served on the professional staff of the U.S. House Committee on Science, overseeing DOE non-defense R&D programs, and held research and policy roles at Sandia National Laboratories, Vista Technologies, the Northeast-Midwest Institute, and the American Physical Society. She came to Washington as an APS Congressional Science Fellow following a faculty appointment in the UCLA Physics Department and research at Brookhaven National Laboratory. She conducted her doctoral research at an NSF facility at Cornell University and earned degrees in physics with distinction from Yale University and Stony Brook University
Dr. Kaarsberg is an elected Fellow of the American Physical Society and has published extensively on energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainability, climate change, and national laboratory policy.
